How to Use the Work Hours Calculator
The hours worked calculator is very simple to use.
Choose Your Time Format: Start by selecting whether you want to use a 12-hour clock (AM/PM) or a 24-hour clock (military time). You would be surprised how many companies use a 24 clock to manage their time so we had to add this option.
Enter Your Start Time: Add the time you began working using the format you chose. Whether it’s 9:00 AM or 09:00, you can enter the time quickly and easily.
Enter Your End Time: Next, add the time you finished working. This tells the calculator how long your workday was, excluding any breaks you took, this can include lunch breaks or other type of breaks that we didn’t mention. The calculator automatically calculates the difference between your start and end times.
Deduct Break Time: If you took any breaks during your shift, you can enter the total number of minutes in the “Deduct Break” field. This helps the calculator provide an accurate total for your actual working hours, so your breaks are accounted for and won’t be included in your work time. Some companies pay for break times, so in this case leave this field blank.
Calculate: After you’ve entered all the necessary information, hit the “Calculate” button. The calculator will instantly show you the total time you worked, displaying the hours and minutes you should add to your timesheet.
Review Your Results: The results will display clearly at the bottom of the calculator, showing exactly how many hours and minutes you worked, excluding any breaks. You can now easily transfer this information to your timesheet or time card and save you time to figure it out, because this time is valuable as you may not be paid for it.
Why use the Work Hours Calculator?
I’m personally bad at math, especially when it comes to simple calculations. Recently, I started working for a company that requires me to manually enter my hours worked. Clocks and I don’t get along very well, especially a 24-hour clock. So, at the end of every day, I would sit there for up to five minutes trying to figure out exactly how many hours I worked down to the minute. That’s what gave me the idea to create this calculator.
We live in a world where sometimes there’s no point in overthinking things, so it’s easier to just Google it.
When entering your time worked, it’s important to get the hours correct to make sure you get paid properly. You can also use a paycheck calculator to figure out how much your pay should be. If you forget to add even 10 minutes a day on your timesheet, it can add up fast, and over a week, you could be missing out on a couple hundred dollars from your paycheck. You don’t want to work for free, do you?
This calculator can be helpful if you work in payroll and need to submit payroll time for your company. In some companies, workers only need to enter their time worked and submit their timesheets to payroll every week or two. Payroll admins can use this calculator to figure out time easily and instantly.
