How Is Alberta Voting on Separation?

One of the main questions Albertans are voting on is whether the province should remain in Canada or take steps toward holding a binding referendum on separation.

This is Question 10 on the ballot. Voting for the second option would start a legal process toward another referendum. It would not immediately make Alberta an independent country.

You can see the vote totals for both options in the live results above.

When Do the Results Come In?

Votes will be counted after polling stations close on October 19. Results are expected to begin coming in later in the evening.

The separation question will be counted first, with the other nine referendum questions following.
