DoorDash Profit Calculator

DoorDash earnings can look good when you only look at the amount shown in the Dasher app, but gross delivery pay is not the same as actual profit. Gas, vehicle maintenance, tires, depreciation, parking, tolls and unpaid time between orders can reduce what you really make from a Dash.

This DoorDash Profit Calculator estimates your real earnings after delivery expenses. Enter your base pay, tips, promotions, deliveries, Dash time, active time, mileage and vehicle costs to calculate profit per delivery, profit per hour, profit per mile, weekly profit, monthly profit and estimated annual earnings.

The calculator works for drivers using Earn per Offer as well as drivers evaluating Earn by Time. Simple Estimate provides a quick calculation using total earnings, time, mileage and fuel. Advanced Estimate separates DoorDash base pay, tips and promotions while accounting for maintenance, tires, depreciation, driving to your zone, waiting time, parking, tolls, taxes and other expenses.

How to Use the DoorDash Profit Calculator

Start by entering the total number of deliveries completed during a Dash. Then enter your total Dash time and active delivery time. These two numbers are important because time spent waiting for orders can reduce your real hourly earnings even though you are available to work.

Next, enter your DoorDash base pay, customer tips and any Peak Pay, promotions or bonuses. If you already know the complete amount shown in your earnings screen, you can enter it as Total Earnings Override instead.

Enter the complete mileage associated with the Dash, including delivery mileage, driving to your Dash zone and the drive home afterward if you want to evaluate the complete personal cost of doing the work.

Simple Estimate subtracts fuel from your DoorDash earnings. Advanced Estimate provides a more complete profitability calculation by including maintenance, tires, depreciation, parking, tolls, fixed monthly expenses and taxes.

How DoorDash Pay Works

DoorDash earnings can contain several different types of pay. For a driver evaluating profitability, it is useful to separate them instead of looking only at the total deposited into the bank account.

  • DoorDash base pay
  • Customer tips
  • Peak Pay
  • Promotions
  • Bonuses or incentives
  • Other applicable earnings

The calculator combines these amounts to determine gross DoorDash revenue before subtracting the cost of operating your vehicle.

DoorDash Profit Formula

The basic DoorDash profit formula is:

DoorDash Profit = Base Pay + Tips + Promotions − Delivery Expenses

Delivery expenses can include gasoline, maintenance, tires, depreciation, tolls, parking and other costs associated with using your vehicle.

DoorDash Gross Earnings vs Profit

Gross earnings are the amount you receive before paying your delivery expenses. Profit is what remains afterward.

Suppose a six-hour Dash generates $130 in total pay and tips. If fuel and other vehicle expenses are estimated at $35:

$130 − $35 = $95 estimated profit

The driver grossed $130, but the work produced approximately $95 before taxes under those assumptions.

DoorDash Profit Per Hour

Profit per hour is one of the most useful numbers for deciding whether DoorDash is worthwhile compared with another job or delivery platform.

If a Dash creates $95 of profit and consumes six hours:

$95 ÷ 6 = approximately $15.83 profit per hour

This is different from dividing gross DoorDash pay by time because vehicle expenses have already been deducted.

DoorDash Active Time vs Dash Time

Active time and total Dash time measure different things. Active time represents time associated with accepted deliveries, while total Dash time can also include periods when you are logged in but waiting for another order.

If you are online for six hours but actively delivering for four and a half hours, you still committed six hours of your day to earning the money.

This calculator therefore shows both gross earnings per active hour and profit per total Dash hour.

Why DoorDash Dash Time Matters

A driver can have strong earnings during active deliveries but still produce weak hourly income if a large portion of the Dash is spent waiting.

For example, earning $100 during four hours of active deliveries equals $25 per active hour. If you were actually online for six hours, the same $100 represents only $16.67 per total Dash hour before vehicle expenses.

DoorDash Earn Per Offer Profit

When evaluating individual offers, the most useful question is not simply how much an offer pays. Consider the mileage and time required to complete it.

A $12 delivery traveling three miles can have very different economics from a $12 delivery requiring ten miles and a long restaurant wait.

DoorDash Earn By Time Profit

When using an active-time-based pay option, remember that the hourly amount shown for active delivery time is not necessarily the same as your earnings per total hour online.

If you spend meaningful time between offers, calculate your income using total Dash time as well as active time.

DoorDash Base Pay

Base pay represents the DoorDash portion of your earnings. Customer tips and applicable promotions can then increase the total amount earned from a Dash.

Advanced drivers may find it useful to track base pay separately from tips so they can see how dependent their total income is on customer gratuities.

DoorDash Tips

Tips can represent a substantial percentage of DoorDash earnings. Two Dashes with identical base pay can generate very different profits if one produces much stronger customer tips.

The calculator therefore keeps tips separate from base pay while combining both into total revenue.

DoorDash Peak Pay and Promotions

Promotional earnings can increase the value of deliveries during certain times or conditions. However, temporary promotions should not automatically be treated as permanent income when estimating long-term annual earnings.

Enter your actual promotion earnings for the Dash being analyzed rather than assuming every future Dash will include the same amount.

DoorDash Profit Per Delivery

Profit per delivery divides net Dash profit by completed orders.

Profit Per Delivery = Net Dash Profit ÷ Completed Deliveries

If twelve deliveries generate $96 in profit:

$96 ÷ 12 = $8 profit per delivery

This number can help you decide whether increasing order volume is actually improving income.

DoorDash Earnings Per Delivery

Gross revenue per delivery is calculated before expenses:

Gross Earnings Per Delivery = Total Dash Revenue ÷ Deliveries

If a driver earns $132 from twelve deliveries, average gross earnings are $11 per delivery.

DoorDash Mileage

Mileage can have an enormous effect on profitability because every additional mile consumes fuel and contributes to vehicle wear.

The mileage displayed for one delivery may not represent every mile you drive while working. Drivers may reposition between restaurants, drive into their zone before beginning or travel home after their final order.

For the most complete profitability estimate, track your odometer when delivery-related driving starts and again when you finish.

DoorDash Gas Cost

Fuel expense depends on mileage, vehicle efficiency and fuel price.

For MPG:

Fuel Cost = Miles Driven ÷ MPG × Price Per Gallon

If you drive 100 miles in a vehicle averaging 25 MPG, approximately four gallons are required.

At $3.50 per gallon:

4 × $3.50 = $14 in fuel

If you want to examine fuel spending over a longer period, the How Much Money Have I Spent on Gasoline Calculator estimates fuel spending from annual mileage, fuel economy and gasoline prices.

DoorDash Fuel Cost Per Mile

At 25 MPG and $3.50 per gallon, fuel alone costs:

$3.50 ÷ 25 = $0.14 per mile

This does not include maintenance, tires or depreciation.

DoorDash Maintenance Cost

Delivery driving adds mileage quickly. Oil changes, brakes, wheel bearings, suspension components and other repairs become necessary more frequently as annual mileage increases.

Advanced mode allows you to reserve a specific maintenance amount for every mile or kilometre driven.

DoorDash Tire Cost

Food delivery can involve repeated stopping, turning, parking and city driving. Tires are not purchased every Dash, but every delivery mile consumes a small portion of their useful life.

If a $700 tire set lasts 40,000 miles, the basic tire cost works out to approximately 1.75 cents per mile.

DoorDash Vehicle Depreciation

Vehicle depreciation is one of the most commonly overlooked delivery costs. Additional mileage can reduce resale value and shorten the amount of time before the vehicle needs replacement.

A driver calculating only gasoline will generally show more apparent profit than a driver who also accounts for long-term vehicle wear.

DoorDash Vehicle Cost Per Mile

Advanced Estimate combines fuel, maintenance, tires, depreciation and other entered expenses to estimate the cost associated with every mile or kilometre driven.

This can help compare different vehicles. A compact sedan may produce different delivery economics from an SUV, pickup or older high-mileage vehicle.

DoorDash Profit Per Mile

Profit per mile measures how much estimated net profit remains relative to total distance:

DoorDash Profit Per Mile = Net Profit ÷ Total DoorDash Miles

If a Dash leaves $90 in estimated profit and requires 100 miles:

$90 ÷ 100 = $0.90 profit per mile

DoorDash Revenue Per Mile

Gross revenue per mile can help identify Dashes that generate a large amount of driving relative to earnings.

If you earn $120 while driving 100 miles:

$120 ÷ 100 = $1.20 gross revenue per mile

If the same $120 requires only 60 miles, gross revenue increases to $2.00 per mile even though total pay has not changed.

DoorDash Waiting Time

Waiting can dramatically reduce hourly profit. Restaurant delays, slow order periods and customer problems can consume time without increasing mileage or revenue.

The calculator automatically subtracts active time from total Dash time to estimate how many hours were spent inactive or waiting.

If waiting is a major issue, the Delivery Driver Waiting Time Cost Calculator can help estimate the longer-term value of time lost to pickup and delivery delays.

Restaurant Waiting Time and DoorDash Profit

A delivery can have excellent pay relative to mileage but still produce poor hourly earnings if you spend twenty minutes waiting for the restaurant to finish the order.

This is why experienced drivers often evaluate dollars per hour and dollars per mile together rather than relying on only one metric.

DoorDash Parking Costs

Paid parking can reduce the profitability of downtown deliveries. A few dollars may seem insignificant on one order, but frequent parking charges can become a noticeable monthly expense.

Drivers who pay for parking regularly can use the How Much Money Have I Spent on Parking Calculator to estimate longer-term parking spending separately.

DoorDash Tolls

Toll roads can save time but increase delivery expense. When comparing routes, consider whether the amount of time saved is worth more than the toll cost.

DoorDash Weekly Earnings

Weekly gross earnings depend on how many hours or Dash sessions you complete and how much each one produces.

If one Dash generates $130 and you complete five similar sessions:

$130 × 5 = $650 weekly gross earnings

Vehicle expenses still need to be deducted before determining weekly profit.

DoorDash Weekly Profit

If those five Dash sessions generate $95 of profit each:

$95 × 5 = $475 estimated weekly profit

This is a much more useful comparison with another job than gross DoorDash earnings alone.

DoorDash Monthly Earnings

The calculator converts weekly earnings into an average month using 52 weeks divided by 12. This avoids treating every month as exactly four weeks long.

Actual monthly income can vary because order volume, tips, promotions and the number of hours you choose to Dash can all change.

DoorDash Monthly Profit

Monthly profit is the amount remaining after the delivery expenses included in the calculator.

A driver grossing $2,500 per month but spending $700 on fuel and vehicle costs has approximately $1,800 remaining before taxes and any expenses not included.

DoorDash Annual Earnings

Annual earnings are based on your average Dash results, Dashes per week and weeks worked each year.

A driver should not automatically multiply their best week by 52. Slow periods, vacations, vehicle repairs and personal schedules can all reduce annual production.

DoorDash Annual Profit

Annual profit can reveal how much mileage your vehicle accumulates to generate gig income.

For example, driving 500 delivery miles per week over 48 weeks adds approximately:

500 × 48 = 24,000 delivery-related miles per year

That mileage should be considered when evaluating long-term vehicle depreciation and maintenance.

How Much Can You Make With DoorDash?

DoorDash earnings vary because every market, schedule and driver is different. Profit depends on order volume, base pay, customer tips, promotions, mileage, restaurant waiting times and vehicle expenses.

The best way to estimate your own income is to record several weeks of actual Dash earnings and mileage, then calculate averages instead of relying on isolated high-earning shifts.

Can You Make $500 a Week With DoorDash?

If the goal is $500 of profit rather than gross earnings, the number of Dashes required depends on your average net profit per session.

If you average $100 of profit per Dash:

$500 ÷ $100 = 5 similar Dashes

If you average only $60 of profit, reaching the same target requires more than eight similar sessions.

Can You Make $1,000 a Week With DoorDash?

To produce $1,000 of actual weekly profit, the combination of Dash hours, order volume and margins must leave $1,000 after the expenses being tracked.

A driver averaging $20 of true profit per hour would require approximately 50 hours to reach $1,000 under those assumptions.

DoorDash Profit Margin

Profit margin calculates the percentage of DoorDash revenue remaining after expenses.

Profit Margin = Net Profit ÷ Gross Earnings × 100

If $150 of gross earnings leave $100 after vehicle expenses:

$100 ÷ $150 × 100 = 66.7% estimated profit margin

What Is a Good DoorDash Order?

A good order should compensate for both the distance and time required. A short high-paying delivery can be attractive, while an apparently good payout can become much less valuable after a long drive and restaurant wait.

Instead of using only one rule, track your results using several measurements:

  • Gross dollars per delivery
  • Profit per delivery
  • Gross dollars per mile
  • Profit per mile
  • Gross earnings per Dash hour
  • Net profit per Dash hour

$1 Per Mile DoorDash Orders

An order paying $1 per delivery mile does not necessarily generate $1 per mile of profit. The vehicle still has fuel, maintenance and depreciation expenses.

Additional unpaid repositioning mileage can also reduce the effective rate.

$2 Per Mile DoorDash Orders

A higher gross rate per mile generally provides more room for expenses, but time still matters. A $2-per-mile order that takes forty minutes can generate weaker hourly earnings than a slightly lower-rate order completed quickly.

Why Delivery Density Matters

Several deliveries within a compact restaurant and customer area can reduce mileage between orders. More revenue can then be generated without adding the same amount of vehicle expense.

This is similar to the economics of larger delivery operations. The Delivery Route Profit Calculator can compare revenue, vehicle expenses, route time, stops and profitability for DoorDash and other delivery services.

DoorDash City Deliveries

Urban delivery areas can provide high restaurant density and shorter distances between customers. However, traffic, apartments, elevators and parking can increase delivery time.

DoorDash Suburban Deliveries

Suburban areas may provide easier parking and faster doorstep delivery but can require more driving between restaurants and customers.

DoorDash Rural Deliveries

Rural orders can create substantial mileage for one delivery. A higher payout may be necessary to compensate for the additional fuel, vehicle wear and time required to return to a busy restaurant area.

DoorDash Apartment Deliveries

Apartment deliveries may require parking, building access, elevators and time locating individual units. Even when mileage is short, those extra minutes can reduce the number of orders completed per hour.

DoorDash Drive-Thru Waiting

Late-night drive-thru lines can create substantial waiting time. A restaurant only two miles away may still be an inefficient order if collecting the food takes thirty minutes.

DoorDash Lunch vs Dinner Profit

Profitability can change throughout the day. Lunch periods may provide shorter orders concentrated around workplaces, while dinner can produce larger orders and different tipping patterns.

Track different periods separately rather than assuming your overall daily average applies equally to every hour.

DoorDash Weekend Profit

Weekend delivery volume can differ from weekday demand. Restaurants may be busier, which can increase order availability while also creating longer pickup waits.

DoorDash With a Fuel-Efficient Car

A fuel-efficient vehicle can reduce one of the largest recurring delivery expenses. The benefit becomes increasingly important as annual DoorDash mileage grows.

A vehicle averaging 35 MPG uses substantially less gasoline over 20,000 delivery miles than a vehicle averaging 20 MPG.

DoorDash With an SUV

An SUV can work for DoorDash but may have higher fuel, tire and depreciation costs than a smaller car. Enter the vehicle’s actual fuel economy rather than relying on the amount of gas purchased during one week.

DoorDash With a Pickup Truck

Pickup trucks can have substantially higher operating costs per mile. A driver using a truck should pay particular attention to total mileage when accepting lower-paying orders.

DoorDash With an Electric Vehicle

Electric vehicles replace gasoline with charging expense. EV drivers can still use the calculator by accounting for charging costs manually as an additional vehicle or Dash expense.

What Happens if Every Delivery Pays $2 More?

The calculator includes a scenario adding $2 of revenue to every completed delivery.

If twelve deliveries average $2 more:

12 × $2 = $24 additional Dash revenue

Because the same deliveries and mileage are assumed, most of that increase improves profit.

What Happens With 20% Less Driving?

The 20% Fewer Miles scenario estimates the effect of completing the same revenue-producing Dash with a denser route.

Fewer miles reduce fuel, maintenance, tire and depreciation costs without reducing revenue in the scenario.

What Happens With 30 Minutes Less Waiting?

Reducing waiting does not necessarily change the profit from the current deliveries, but it increases profit per hour because the same money is earned in less time.

Thirty minutes saved on every Dash can also create room to accept another delivery before ending the session.

DoorDash Hourly Income Goal

Advanced mode lets you enter the amount of profit you want to earn per total Dash hour.

The calculator then estimates how much total Dash revenue is needed to cover vehicle expenses and still produce that hourly profit target.

If your vehicle expenses are $25 and you want $20 of profit for each of five Dash hours:

$25 + ($20 × 5) = $125 required gross Dash revenue

DoorDash Break-Even Pay Per Delivery

The calculator also divides the revenue needed for your target hourly income by completed deliveries.

This produces an average revenue-per-delivery target rather than trying to determine one universal minimum order value.

DoorDash vs Amazon Flex

DoorDash and Amazon Flex use very different delivery structures. DoorDash drivers typically complete individual food, grocery or retail offers, while Amazon Flex commonly organizes work around delivery blocks.

DoorDash can provide flexibility to stop and start around busy periods, while a Flex block involves committing to a scheduled block of delivery work. Comparing profit per hour after mileage provides a more useful comparison than comparing the gross amounts displayed in the apps.

DoorDash vs Uber Eats

Food delivery platforms can differ in customer demand, restaurant availability, promotions and order distances by market. Rather than assuming one app always pays better, track your actual gross earnings, mileage and time on each platform.

DoorDash vs Instacart

Instacart-style grocery work can require significant shopping time in addition to driving. DoorDash orders may involve less shopping but can still include restaurant waiting time.

Profit per total working hour is useful for comparing these different gig-work structures.

DoorDash vs Walmart Spark

Walmart Spark Driver work can involve grocery pickup, batched orders and store waiting. DoorDash can involve more individual restaurant pickups. For either service, track the entire time from when delivery-related work begins until the session is complete.

DoorDash as a Side Hustle

DoorDash can be easier to evaluate as a side hustle when you know what one typical evening actually produces after expenses.

If three evening Dashes each leave $75 after vehicle costs, that represents approximately $225 of weekly profit before taxes rather than simply adding the gross payouts shown in the app.

DoorDash Full-Time Income

Drivers considering full-time delivery should pay close attention to annual mileage and vehicle replacement costs. Driving eight hours every day can put far more mileage on a personal vehicle than occasional evening delivery work.

Higher gross income does not automatically mean higher long-term profit if the vehicle is being consumed significantly faster.

Find Out What DoorDash Really Pays You

The earnings number shown in the DoorDash app tells you how much revenue you generated, but it does not automatically tell you what the work was worth after using your own vehicle.

Start with Simple Estimate when you want a fast answer. Enter your DoorDash earnings, Dash time, mileage, fuel economy and fuel price to estimate how much remains after gasoline.

Advanced Estimate provides a much deeper picture by including maintenance, tires, depreciation, parking, tolls and fixed delivery costs. It also compares active time with total Dash time so waiting between orders does not disappear from your hourly calculation.

Track several weeks of actual results and pay attention to profit per delivery, profit per mile and profit per total Dash hour. Those three numbers can tell you far more about whether DoorDash is worthwhile than gross earnings alone.
